Barbara Wallace Honored at AAHA Conference | Alabama Housing Finance Authority

AHFA retiree Barbara Wallace, who served as multifamily manager until last December, was honored by the AAHA Board of Directors for her contributions to affordable housing with a scholarship named for her. The first recipient of the Barbara Wallace Scholarship is Aimelis Gonzalez-Perez, a valedictorian of the Daleville High School Class of 2022 who will be attending Enterprise State Community College.
Twenty-nine academic scholarships were awarded by AAHA for 2022; 15 were renewals to past scholarship recipients and 14 went to new applicants.
In addition, Gonzalez-Perez and Khong Nguyen of Bayou La Batre were named as recipients of national foundation scholarship awards from the Council for Affordable and Rural Housing (CARH).
AAHA’s scholarship program is open to eligible tenants and resident family members living at an AAHA-member apartment complex and to property/divisional management staff of AAHA-member companies and their children. Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited vocational or technical school, college or university; have at least a “B” average or 3.0 GPA; and meet all other application criteria.
Since 2000, AAHA has awarded $1 million in scholarships and provided assistance to more than 100 college graduates.
